Palmarosa is a cooling, nourishing, and calming oil with a sweet floral scent. Palmarosa is distilled from the fragrant grass and flowers and is similar in quality and functions of floral oils. Palmarosa has an affinity for the Lungs, Pericardium, and Liver. Palmarosa is native to the wetlands of  India.

Palmarosa is often the first oil that I use for new clients that have anxiety or are new to holistic healing. For it allows the client to soften and gently become receptive to healing and provides comfort in a new environment.  When used on Yin Tang and Du 24, it assists in relaxing the mind. The addition of Pericardium 6 and Ren 17 will help to deepen the breath. Palmarosa and Geranium are a valuable pair for Nourishing the Heart and Calming the Shen as well as to ease menopausal symptoms.  This combination is useful to stop night sweats and hot flashes when applied to points such as Heart 7 and Kidney 2. This combo is also effective to gently Nourish the Yin when used correctly in a bath. Both of these oils make up the Meridian Biologix blend Smooth Transitions. This pair is also useful when moving through one of life's difficult transitions. This pair will also uplift one’s spirits during times of tribulations.

The nourishing qualities of Palmarosa make it an excellent choice for dry and aged skin as well as internal or external heat causing dry skin. Palmarosa is known to be hydrating, and from this, we can understand why it is beneficial in blends for yin deficiency fire and clearing excess heat. You can think of this as water putting out the fire - this is also true for oils such as Geranium, German Chamomile.

Palmarosa is an oil that is used with Roman Chamomile and lavender in Meridian biologic Night Journey to aid in restlessness and to soothe the mind. Palmarosa is effective when applied on the ying spring points to Clear Heart Fire and Calm the Shen - especially Liver 2 and Pericardium8.

Palmarosa is also is high anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties and is a good choice to use with oils such as Ravensara, Peppermint, and Eucalyptus for external invasions, especially if it causes dry skin. Palmarosa also offsets the drying qualities of Eucalyptus Radiata and Peppermint when using these oils to Release the Exterior.
